Wood that is used indoors (for floors, furniture or children’s toys) is subjected to wear and tear. Therefore it needs protection that won’t impair the natural properties of the wood. Wood must be allowed to “breathe” so that it retains its elasticity and has a positive effect on room climate

Once an Osmo interior finish has been applied, the wood retains its natural appearance and feel. The surface will become hard-wearing, non-abrasive, water-repellent, and dirt-resistant. It will be protected against everyday accidents of water, wine, beer, cola, sodas, etc., should any minor damages occur, surfaces can easily be touched up with no visible brush marks

Osmo polyx-Oil wood finish

Osmo offers a natural and environmentally friendly alternative to wood finishing. The products are based on rapidly renewable, natural vegetable oils that penetrate deeply into the wood, keeping it elastic and healthy, while preventing it from drying and becoming brittle. The wood is allowed to breathe which means it is naturally protected, moisture can evaporate while the surface is very water resistant, water tightly beads on the surface which can be simply wiped off.

The natural treatment of wood is not only for protection, but the aesthetic point of view is essential. Osmo’s natural wood finishes offer a wide variety of interior and exterior products, it is possible to create an almost infinite variation of naturally occurring shades or bright, vivid colors. If you want to enhance the grain showing a gorgeous, natural colour tone or whether you prefer to keep the natural, raw appearance of the wood – or just looking for a comfortable, durable surface that adapts to the demands of life, Osmo has the product just for you!

Corporate Responsibility

The foundation of Osmo wood finishes has been based upon purified and refined natural resources through the last 30 years. The dry finish fulfils both the DIN EN 71.3 (suitable for children’s toys) and DIN 53160 (fast to perspiration and saliva) and as such is safe for humans, animals and plants. Osmo uses carefully harvested natural oils (sunflower, soya, linseed and thistle oils) and hard waxes (carnauba and candelilla waxes) for it’s finishes.

The inorganic pigments used for Osmo Color are created from natural ores, these are cleaned and refined until a level of physiological purity has been achieved and only a pure mineral element remains. Osmo has been working for many years with ‘High Solid Products’ which contain only a small amount of solvents. For years now Osmo has also been working to develop products which are completely free from solvents (VOC’s), as a result of this research the Osmo ‘Full Solid’ range of products was launched, Osmo is still striving to develop this technology further for years to come.

Due to the low amounts of solvents used in our products, the Osmo production facility has not been bound by the German emissions law since 1998, in addition to this technical systems are also encapsulated to ensure that very little emissions can enter the atmosphere.
